I met Salman Ahmad this summer in Central Park, and was so inspired I immediately bought his book, Rock & Roll Jihad: A Muslim Rock Star's Revolution.  Salman started the largest rock group in all of South Asia, called Junoon, after his first efforts to make music as a teenager in Pakistan got him arrested.  He's since become a music ambassador for the UN, and was a huge advocate for the Muslim community after 9/11 caused a lot of hatred towards Muslims in the U.S.  His story provides the inspiration for our first eighth grade case study this year.  Check out his performance at the UN Assembly last year here and here [click on entry for links]; it is Pakistani rock music, so some of you will find it unusual to listen to.
