Midori made headlines in New York City when, 14 years old, she played with the New York Philharmonic and broke two violin strings while playing (!). Without missing a beat, she exchanged instruments and finished the concert playing on someone else's violin that was bigger than hers! You can watch a video of that here. And also check out her performance of Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy." The last section, beginning at 4:50, is considered one of the most difficult songs ever written for violin. Since becoming world-famous, Midori has become one of the strongest advocates for making sure everyone can have access to music in schools. |
