Esperanza Spalding, Musical Quadruple-Threat (click here for links)

I call jazz bassist and singer-songwriter Esperanza Spalding a quadruple threat because she can play an instrument, she can sing, she can write music, and she can improvise.  In today's musical scene, where we have very few musicians that can do more than one (most singers these days can't play an instrument and don't write their own songs!), someone like Esperanza really stands out.  Some videos: Esperanza singing her song "I know you know," Esperanza improvising a solo, and performing at the White House for Obama.  And for those who are wondering, Spalding is of African-American, Welsh, Spanish, and Native-American descent.
