The Transport for London's map of the London Underground, with musical influences, is attached.  How many of the musicians are you familiar with?  Can you describe why some musicians might have been chosen for their place on the map?

Student papers (shared via google doc) or performances are due by the end of the school day on Friday, Oct. 31.  A copy of the project description, including the "What is Jazz?" map, is attached.

Welcome to 10th Grade Music!

It's going to be an epic semester in 10th grade.  For those students who aren't able to take 10th Grade Music during the day because of the French class conflict, you should see Mr. Shieh.  The After School Music club will be offered for credit for these students, and you will be able to participate in all performances with the 10th grade class.

Film Scoring Information

We will be scoring the short animated film "Virtus Vitae," directed by Laszlo L. Ujvari and used for the 2013 CINE International Film Scoring Competition.  You may view the film with its original score here:  You may also google the film to view many of the different entries into the Competition (below is the mp4 of Anna Chapman's project (, which you can use the video for if your video processing software has difficulty importing the original.  Beware if you choose to listen to other people's ideas: this competition had different requirements than our project.

Incidentally, we are using this film under the Fair Use Doctrine in U.S. Copyright law.  If for some bizarre reason you wish to learn more about Fair Use, copyright law, and its impact on creativity in the digital age... find Mr. Shieh sometime and ask him.

Zombies & Lullabies performances on March 25

The next assessment for Music II students will be a live performance of sections from Rosin-Eating Zombies and Lullaby on March 25.

Gallery Night on Jan. 22!!!

All students will be performing during Gallery Night on Jan. 22 with their chamber ensembles.  Students will receive their performance times this week.  Practice at home or during lunch sessions on Wednesday or Thursday this week are a MUST!
