6th Grade - Homework
Homework for April 28
Students have a quiz over notes and note-names on Monday, including low notes. Students can find the practice flashcards we used in class at the bottom of this site: http://mwatsonmusic.com/documents.html (under "Note Reading Flash Cards"). The practice quiz we used in class is also attached, and any students that were absent may check their answers with another student in their class. We are using the first set for each instrument (Violin/Viola/Cello: A & D strings; Bass: G & D strings) and the top 4 cards from the second set (Violin/Viola/Cello: G string; Bass: A string + low G). |
Homework for March 31
All students who did not receive a 4 on their Hook are required to revise and resubmit their hook on the revision sheet (attached below). Additionally, students should be prepared to take a short quiz on Garageband this Monday, April 4 (study sheet attached). |
Homework for March 10
Students must complete the first draft of their individual hook (attached). On Monday, only students who have completed their homework, including both the outline and note-drawing sections, will be permitted on the computers to record, sequence, and mix their soundscapes. |
Homework for February 28 & March 3
On February 28, began their New York Soundscape project by creating a Group Contract and deciding in groups what sounds they wish to record on Thursday. Students absent should familiarize themselves with the packet (attached) and check in with their group members (same as Brandenburg groups) regarding the group contract and fieldwork decisions. On March 3, students will need to come to class ready for a quick walk around MELS to record sounds for their Soundscape (including coats if the weather is cold!). For Homework on March 3, students must complete a Soundscape map. |
Homework for February 14 & 17
On Monday, 2/14, classes will be recording their "jigsaw" version of Brandenburg, and students should come prepared to play their part. There will be no homework assigned on either Monday or Thursday this week, except for students that have signed up to make up either their Brandenburg recording or Rhythm Bs quiz. |
Homework for February 7 & 11
On February 7 we will be having our quiz on Rhythm Bs (quarter notes & rests, half notes & rests, and eighth notes), so make sure to study! There will be no homework for February 11, but you will need to have all your Musical Cities notes (4 cities so far) and be prepared to play Brandenburg up to speed with your group. If you are still having difficulties with Brandenburg, continue air-playing at home to get your fingers used to the patterns. You will have time in class to work with your group. Any student wishing to make-up their Brandenburg performance test is invited to come to me on Mondays at lunch. |
Homework for January 24 & 27
Students will be recording Brandenburg Concerto up to measure 19 on Thursday, January 27 so should be air-playing the finger patterns at home in preparation. Any students missing the music must see me at lunch or after school. |
Homework for January 20
In class we will start work on Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, and continue our focus on rhythms. For homework, students must write in the rhythm syllables for lines 21, 25, 29, and 33 of Rhythm Bs (attached). |
Homework for January 10 and 13
Sixth graders must make sure to bring their (1) completed fingerboard maps (attached) and (2) musical city notes to class each day. For homework on Monday, students should be air-practicing either #91 or #92 from their books (they have written the notes down in class), and be ready to perform either song with a steady beat. On Thursday, students must complete writing in the notes for the first two lines of the new song that will be handed out. |
Homework for December 16 and 20
Food for Thought is finally here, on December 16 from 6:30-8:00pm. Students should make sure they have all their music, and that they know the music thoroughly (they can practice it at home by air-playing!). On December 20, students will have a playing test on the concert music and will evaluate a video of their performance. |
